Indian Monuments and their History

India is very well known for their history and their historical locations. The history of India is based on the people and events that once took place in India.

The three main historical monuments that give one of the greatest experience and knowledge about the cultures of India is the Taj Mahal in Agra, Delhi, the Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar, Punjab and the Hawa Mahal in Rajasthan, Jaipur.  I am going to give a brief explanation about the three monuments.

Taj Mahal’s history is based on love, the Harmandir Sahib is based on religion and the Hawa Mahal is based on architecture. I think the winner from the three monuments would be the Taj Mahal. Everyone would want to hear a monument that is built in the history of India based on a love story. I am sure that when people will hear the story their hearts will melt and would wish for their significant other to build one for them.

So, the prince Shah Jahan was strolling down a bazaar (outlet shops) and had walked past gorgeous women by the name of Mumtaz Mahal and all I can say that moment was love at first sight. I would call it as young love as they were just teenagers. After that day Shah Jahan went back to his father Jahangir and asked him if he can have Mumtaz’s hand in marriage. And after 5 years they got married at the year 1612.  In 1628, Shah Jahan became the emperor and made Mumtaz his Queen.

In reality her name is Arjumand Banu but he gave the name Mumtaz because it means the Jewel of the Palace. When Mumtaz gave birth to their 14th child, she died because there were issues. When she was on her deathbed, Shah Jahan gave his word has he will remarry and build the most beautiful, precious tomb over her grave.

It took Shah Jahan 22 years and 22,000 worked to build this historical monument. When Shah Jahan died, his body was placed to the tomb next to Mumtaz’s.  In the history of India this monument took the longest time to build, and is also known as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It should be something to be proud and yet it’s close to my heart. And love and respect plays a huge role in the culture of India
